MPCA: Southwest Minnesota rivers in bad shape

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A new report says rivers in southwestern Minnesota are in bad shape because of increased erosion and runoff.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency report also says half the rivers and streams tested throughout the state have been altered in recent years, the result of measures taken to help improve drainage for both agriculture and city development.

FEMA to begin damage asessment from flooding

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar says federal disaster officials will start assessing Minnesota's flood damage this week.

Klobuchar says the Federal Emergency Management Agency will begin compiling its preliminary damage assessment on Tuesday. She says the agency's assessment will take about a week.

The assessment starts the process of bringing federal help to the state and counties with public infrastructure damage.

Groundbreaking ceremony for regional amateur sports facility postponed

The ground breaking for the Southwest Regional Amateur Sports Facility in Marshall today has been postponed.

The event was scheduled for 11 a.m. at the site of the facility, but the city of Marshall will reschedule the event for some point in July.

State trooper from Luverne rescues southwest Minnesota motorist stranded by flooding

LUVERNE, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota State Patrol says a state trooper plucked a woman from her car after rapidly rising water flooded Interstate 90 and stranded her car in the southwest corner of the state near the South Dakota border.
